New owner sought for historic Colomendy Outdoor Education Centre in North Wales

Liverpool City Council is preparing to sell the historic Colomendy outdoor education centre, aiming to secure a promising future for the renowned North Wales estate. To facilitate this, the council has enlisted property firm Newmark as the sole agent responsible for marketing the 106-acre property situated near Mold.

Nestled within the scenic Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape, Colomendy has been a prominent venue for outdoor learning and residential programs in the region for many years. The estate offers a variety of amenities, including accommodation, activity areas, teaching spaces, and expansive grounds that are well-suited for uses related to leisure, tourism, and education. At the core of the site lies the historic Colomendy Hall, which presents additional potential for careful restoration or repurposing, subject to obtaining appropriate permissions.

The council is inviting proposals that will foster a sustainable and long-lasting future for Colomendy while preserving its rich heritage and unique environment. Its strategic location, easily accessible from Liverpool, Manchester, and North Wales, along with the existing infrastructure, provides investors or operators with a rare chance to develop a distinctive destination encompassing hospitality, wellness, tourism, leisure, or educational activities.

Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy, emphasized the council’s commitment: “We are bringing Colomendy to market to secure a bold new future for one of the region’s most important and historic sites. Working closely with Denbighshire County Council, partners and local stakeholders, our focus is on finding a long-term use that reflects local ambitions and delivers real, lasting benefits. Colomendy has a deep-rooted connection with Liverpool, dating back to its role during the Second World War, and we are determined to see that heritage respected. The right proposal will not only protect that legacy, but create a positive and enduring impact for generations to come.”

Denbighshire County Council’s Councillor Alan James also expressed support, stating: “We’re really pleased to see Liverpool City Council promoting the valuable Colomendy outdoor education site to secure its use for the future. Colomendy sits in a prime location in the beautiful Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape, and over the years, it has welcomed generations of young people from Liverpool who have built a lifelong connection with this part of north Wales and its communities. Ensuring the long-term viability of this site for future generations is important to us here at Denbighshire and we will work with Liverpool City Council and partners to make sure that this happens.”
