2K88, formerly known as 1988, has revealed his upcoming album titled ‘SHAME’ is set to be released via Unsound on the 28th of June. The album’s eponymous lead single is already available, and the second single, ‘GODMODE’, was released on the 14th of June.

The genre known as PL SOUND has inspired 2K88 throughout the album. It represents British sound system music infused with social, urban, and sonic themes that developed during Poland’s post-communist transformation. The record, ‘SHAME’, intertwines sounds of ambient, dub, rap, and jungle. A press release said that these sounds are “in keeping with his new, futuristic handle” of 2K88.

2K88 explained that the album centers around Poland’s rap from the 90s and 00s, both literally and metaphorically. He uses snippets of the rap as an essence, a nostalgic spirit of those times during which he shaped himself as a person. Throughout the album, he drew heavily from what he most values in the UK sound and inweaves in stories, emotions, and character that have been an inseparable part of his background from the beginning of his career.

The PL Sound-inspired album centers around an addictive bass sound with elements drawn from past eras of hip-hop, as tracks are built around samples and experiences of the generations that grew up with said sounds. ‘SHAME’ also contains flickering club basslines. 2K88’s ‘SHAME’ album will be available on the 28th of June.
