A new initiative by public transport company BVG in Berlin could soon see Techno DJs performing at U-Bahn train stations, as reported by Tagesspiegel. The aim is to bring the lively and vibrant essence of Berlin into the stations, starting with Kottbusser Tor in central Kreuzberg where techno and electronic DJs will perform on the U8 line platform. BVG plans to introduce jazz artists on the U1 and U3 lines, all from Berlin’s music scene or with ties to the Kottbusser Tor area.
The scheme to bring live music to stations is part of a larger effort to revive the station area, known for its high levels of crime, litter, and violence. BVG CEO Henrik Falk believes that live music at the stations could enhance the wellbeing of passengers. This initiative follows a test phase from February 2024 to March 2025, which also included a cleaning patrol to improve cleanliness and security at key stations. As the scheme moves into operation, the specifics of which artists will perform at BVG stations are still under review.
Additionally, art exhibitions featuring local artists and light installations could be introduced along the U8 line, as reported by Tagesspiegel. The overall goal is to enhance the station experience for passengers and contribute to the cultural vibrancy of Berlin. Further details about the live music performances and art installations are expected to be announced as the initiative progresses. Gemma Ross is Mixmag’s Associate Digital Editor
