A remembrance ceremony is scheduled to take place later this month in honor of Andy Williams, also known as Yam Who? who tragically passed away in March. Dance For Yamz is an event that aims to celebrate the life and contributions of the Midnight Riot co-founder. Proceeds from ticket sales will be directed towards supporting his family, which includes his wife and two children. The event is slated for Thursday, May 15, at Ministry of Sound, featuring performances from a lineup that includes Horse Meat Disco, Melvo Baptiste, Colleen Cosmo Murphy, Dave Lee Jn, and various other artists from the Midnight Riot label family.
Upon his passing in March, Faith Fanzine announced the sad news. A fundraiser was subsequently launched to assist his family with funeral expenses and other needs following his unexpected death. Described as a loving husband and father, Andy was not only a family man but also a supportive friend to many individuals. Throughout his impressive 30-year career, Andy Williams made a substantial impact as a DJ, producer, label head, and journalist, operating under aliases like Yam Who? and Qwestlife, the latter in collaboration with Tom Laroye.
Known for founding labels such as ISM Records, Midnight Riot, and Black Riot, Andy released music from notable artists like Amp Fiddler, Robert Owens, and Eli Escobar. He also served as the disco editor of Mixmag from 2016 to 2020, contributing a monthly column to the magazine. Tickets for Dance For Yamz can be found on the event’s webpage, offering attendees the chance to pay tribute to a man who left an indelible mark on the music world.
