The team, led by Takayuki Nakajima at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, have been able to produce beef from cow meat in just 14 days, compared to the 30 days it typically takes. 

In their study, the researchers said their method could make lab-grown meat “an economically viable product sooner than expected”. They added that their discovery could help reduce the environmental impact of meat production and improve food security. 

While cultured meat has been proposed as a more sustainable and ethical alternative to traditional meat production, its high cost and long production time have so far proved challenging.
