Saturday is expected to cause some disruption in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, due to poor weather conditions. There are two separate warnings in place in Northern Ireland for strong winds and heavy rainfall. The rain warning covers counties Antrim, Down, Londonderry, and Tyrone, and will run from 06:00 until 19:00 GMT. Meanwhile, in the Republic of Ireland, widespread orange and yellow warnings have been issued by Met Éireann, with Storm Elin bringing high winds.

Met Éireann has warned that gusts could reach 120km/h (75mph) – with gusts up to 90kmh/h (55mph) widely expected – leading to transportation disruption and power outages. Coastal communities could be affected by spray and large waves. In Northern Ireland, a band of heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, as well as causing longer journey times. Up to 30mm (1.2in) of rain is expected quite widely, with up to 55mm over hills.

Sunday will see another band of persistent and locally heavy rain moving through the morning, albeit with less wind expected than Saturday. A brighter, drier gap will follow into Sunday afternoon, although more showery and at times heavy rain will move in again later.

The Met Office is encouraging people to keep a close watch on weather updates and to take proactive measures to ensure safety
