Police have reported that nine people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a knife attack in Easton which left two men with injuries. The assault occurred near Rawnsley Park in Bristol just before 4:40 am. Both men in their 20s were hospitalised with knife wounds, one in a serious condition. A police cordon remains in place as the investigation continues.

According to Avon and Somerset Police, the victims and suspects are believed to be known to each other. The road between the Stapleton Road and Pennywell Road junctions, as well as Old Market access to Easton Way, are closed. The police are urging anyone who was in the Stapleton Road and Rawnsley Park area between 4:15 am and 5:00 am to come forward with information.

Area Neighbourhood Policing Ch Insp Scott Hill stated that this is a “significant incident” and that he was “conscious there had been…similar incidents over the past few months.” He added that there is “a great deal of concern among the community around knife crime.” Hill pledged that the police are “dedicated to reducing serious violence and knife crime, especially among young people.”

The Bristol area has seen numerous non-fatal knife attacks over past years, with two fatal incidents earlier this year alone. A number of organisations located in Bristol issued a joint open letter in March calling for an end to the “scourge of knife crime.
