A man has been accused of murdering a schoolboy and has appeared in court. Marcus Monzo, 36, is charged with the murder of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin who was attacked with a sword in Hainault in April. Monzo is said to have attempted to slash the young boy’s neck and chest after approaching him from behind while he walked to school. Four other people, including two police officers, were seriously harmed in separate attacks that took place within 20 minutes.
During the Old Bailey hearing, Monzo who is from east London, was not required to enter a plea. He has been charged with ten offenses, including one count of murder, four counts of attempted murder, and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon. He was remanded in prison custody.
Mr. Monzo faces several other charges related to the April 30 attacks, including having an article with a blade or point, aggravated burglary and wounding with intent. Court documents show the charges include weapons such as a “Katana sword,” a “tanto Katana sword,” and a kitchen knife. He appeared via video link from Belmarsh Prison located in West Beckton.
A trial date has been set for February 3 of next year. During the hearing, Monzo only confirmed his name and spoke nothing else. The Anjorin family was among those present at the proceedings.
