Following the emergence of a second video of a man being kicked in the head by police at Manchester Airport, the family of the injured man have expressed concerns for any injured officers. The second footage, obtained from the Manchester Evening News, apparently showed events leading to the attack, including a fight which broke out between two men and the police. In the original video, a man can be seen being struck twice by a Greater Manchester Police firearms officer as he lay on the floor.

Throughout the melee, before suspects were finally restrained using Tasers, two officers were also punched to the ground. The two men involved in the incident have been named as Muhammad Fahir Amaaz and Amaad Amaaz. Their former solicitor, Akhmed Yakoob, claimed that Fahir Amaaz had been kicked in the head and a CT scan had identified a cyst on his brain. Fahir Amaaz’s family are currently consulting with new legal representation.

Greater Manchester’s Mayor, Andy Burnham, has maintained that people should wait for full context before passing judgment on those involved. The family’s representative responded to this, stating that they could not see any justification for an assault on a person lying on the ground. The video of the incident has led to protests outside Rochdale police station and in Manchester city centre.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that one police officer has been suspended, while the Independent Office for Police Conduct will conduct an investigation into the incident
