Blyth teenager who celebrated fatal soldier punch detained

A tragic incident unfolded outside a nightclub in Blyth, Northumberland, resulting in the death of 35-year-old corporal Shaun Roberts, a highly esteemed member of the British Army. The perpetrator, 18-year-old Mason Ibbotson from Blyth, was found guilty of manslaughter and has been sentenced to six years in detention. Cpl Roberts had extensive frontline experience and was praised for displaying gallantry in rescuing wounded comrades under heavy fire. Described as brave, determined, and kind, Cpl Roberts left an indelible mark on those who knew him. In contrast, Ibbotson, whose traumatic past led to volatile behavior, expressed remorse for his actions in court.

The incident served as a stark reminder of the dangers of drunken fighting, with Judge Nathan Adams emphasizing the tragic consequences of such actions.
