A blazing fire erupted at Gatwick Airport, causing a temporary suspension of access to the North Terminal. Fortunately, the situation was brought under control, and the north terminal car park was subsequently reopened.
Eyewitness Danny Connelly described the harrowing scene, noting that the smell of smoke was immediately noticeable upon exiting the terminal. As they moved closer, the sight of a fully engulfed vehicle in flames became apparent. The swift response from emergency services was critical in preventing further escalation of the fire, which was extinguished by approximately 14:00. Despite this positive development, fire crews remained on-site to ensure the area’s safety.
WSFRS emphasized the importance of maintaining caution, advising residents in the vicinity to steer clear of the north terminal car park area to guarantee the well-being of the public, staff, and other airport users.
