A chilling new documentary focusing on the notorious serial killers Fred and Rose West is set to debut on Netflix, promising to reveal “previously unseen police video and unheard audio recordings”. The documentary, titled Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story, will delve into the gruesome details of how the Wests tortured, raped, and reportedly murdered numerous women in Gloucester between the years 1967 and 1987.
This upcoming documentary aims to shed light on the heinous crimes committed by the couple, with a particular focus on the impact on the victims’ families and how the Gloucestershire Constabulary ultimately uncovered the extent of the horrors perpetrated by Fred and Rose West. According to Netflix, the documentary will provide insight into the “pain and torment” endured by the families for decades as a result of the Wests’ actions.
Notorious for their despicable crimes, Rose West is currently serving a life sentence following her conviction in 1995 for the murder of 10 girls and women, including her own daughter Heather and stepdaughter Charmaine. On the other hand, Fred West never faced trial as he tragically took his own life in prison in January 1995, shortly after the discovery of nine sets of human remains buried beneath the couple’s residence.
The documentary series will kick off with the investigation into Heather’s disappearance and the subsequent revelation of her remains buried at the Wests’ Cromwell Street home in Gloucester. Additionally, the series will delve into the trial that followed, as well as the extensive search for more bodies away from the Wests’ primary residence. An earlier ITV documentary, Fred and Rose West: Reopened, which aired in 2021, hinted at the potential discovery of the remains of 15-year-old Mary Bastholm in the cellar of what is now the Clean Plate café in Gloucester, where Fred West was a regular customer. Despite these claims, Gloucestershire Constabulary did not find any human remains at the site. Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story is scheduled for release on Netflix on May 14th
