At 24 years old, Tania Pomroy found herself facing a reality that many her age could hardly fathom – she became a widow. After the passing of her wife, Charlotte Thomas, at the young age of 25, Tania was left to navigate the complexities of grief and loss on her own. Reflecting on her situation, Tania expressed, “I feel like you never really come across many young widows so I felt really isolated at the start.”
Their love story began in a university dorm in Coventry, where Tania and Charlotte met and eventually tied the knot on 23 September 2023 – a date that marked six years since they first laid eyes on each other. However, tragedy struck just five months later, leaving Tania to grapple with a void that seemed insurmountable. “When you lose your person it’s not just the person that you lose, it’s yourself and everything that makes you, you, in the process,” Tania revealed.
Despite the overwhelming grief and sense of loss, Tania found solace in an unlikely place – social media. Turning to platforms like YouTube and TikTok, she began sharing her journey of mourning and mental health struggles with a growing audience. The response was unexpectedly positive, with millions of views on her videos detailing her life with Charlotte and the aftermath of her passing. Tania explained, “I think for me it was almost at the time the one part of my life that was kind of normal…I’m guessing that’s why I picked up the camera and carried on doing that.”
As she slowly found her footing in this new reality, Tania continued to share her experiences openly, building a supportive community of followers who resonated with her story. Looking ahead, Tania hopes to use her platform not only to keep Charlotte’s memory alive but also to raise awareness about grief and mental health. She emphasized, “Everyone is going to experience grief at some point, so if we talk about it more and it’s a little bit less taboo, then we’ll realize that we’re all going to be in the same boat, and we can help and support each other.
