Liv McMahon, a technology reporter, highlighted a suspected glitch that occurred on Thursday evening resulting in some Co-op product prices being reduced by as much as 100% on the delivery app Deliveroo. This pricing error enabled shoppers to obtain various products, including Loyd Grossman pasta sauce, Costa ground coffee, and Fox’s cookies, at no cost. Some shoppers were able to purchase items like Robinsons squash, which was discounted from £1.50 to 15p per bottle.

Peter, a resident of Lancashire, shared his experience of taking advantage of this “incredible offer,” which allowed him to secure over £80 worth of goods for just £3.29, including delivery fees. He expressed surprise at the Co-op and Deliveroo honoring and delivering the mispriced items, stating that he plans to donate most of the items to his local food bank to assist those in need within his community. The Co-op, in response to a cyber attack that affected the firm in a manner similar to Marks and Spencer, temporarily closed parts of its IT systems to address the hacking attempt.

Sally Marie from Bolton, another individual who benefited from the discounted items, discovered the glitch via a website and quickly placed an order before stock ran out. Her order, which included items priced at zero, arrived promptly within 15 minutes. Various individuals also shared evidence of their discounted Co-op purchases through social media platforms, showcasing their bargain finds. Pricing errors, as highlighted by Citizen’s Advice, may result in varying outcomes based on a store’s terms and conditions, with many retailers choosing to honor such mistakes. Past incidents, including a pricing error for Fifa 23 Ultimate Edition on India’s Epic Games store, have seen companies like Electronic Arts honoring purchases made at erroneous discounts
