An alleged attack on a prison officer by convicted Southport killer Axel Rudakubana is currently under investigation by police, as reported by The Sun. The incident took place at HMP Belmarsh, where Rudakubana threw boiling water over the officer. The Prison Service emphasized that violence within prisons will not be tolerated, and they will seek the maximum punishment for any attacks on their staff members.

Rudakubana, who is 18 years old, was sentenced to a minimum of 52 years for the brutal murder of three young girls at a dance class in Southport. The victims were Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven years old, Alice Aguiar, nine years old, and Bebe King, who was six. Additionally, Rudakubana injured eight other children, the dance class instructor Leanne Lucas, and businessman John Hayes, who intervened to stop the attack. His crimes also included producing ricin, possessing terrorist materials, and having a knife.

Following the sentencing in January at Liverpool Crown Court, calls for an appeal to review the length of Rudakubana’s jail term were dismissed by the Attorney General in February. A public inquiry into the Southport murders was initiated in April, shedding light on the horrific events that took place during the Taylor Swift-themed dance class where the killings occurred. Rudakubana’s minimum of 52 years in prison ensures that he will not be eligible for release until he has completed this term behind bars.

These tragic events have sparked public outrage and raised concerns about the safety and security within the prison system. It is imperative that measures are taken to prevent such heinous acts from reoccurring and to ensure the protection of both inmates and prison staff members. The investigation into the attack on the prison officer is ongoing, with authorities determined to bring justice to those affected by Rudakubana’s violent actions
