Brazilian butt-lift injector banned from carrying out cosmetic procedures

A recent BBC investigation has led to the ban of a self-proclaimed “beauty consultant” named Ricky Sawyer from conducting cosmetic procedures in England and Wales. The inquiry revealed that Sawyer was administering dangerous Brazilian butt-lift (BBL) treatments, involving the injection of large amounts of dermal filler into clients’ buttocks to enhance their appearance. This discovery was made while Sawyer was operating in a rented office space in London, where he was performing risky procedures and distributing medication unlawfully.

The findings of the BBC investigation were presented in Manchester Civil Justice Centre as part of a civil case initiated by Trafford Council. As a result, a judge granted an injunction restricting Sawyer from performing or arranging cosmetic procedures in England and Wales until May 27, 2028. The court heard compelling evidence, including video footage from the original BBC documentary and detailed images showcasing the injuries sustained by one of Sawyer’s clients.

The injurious consequences of Sawyer’s procedures were likened to those of “serious knife crime” by James Parry, the attorney representing Trafford Council in the case. Following the injunction, which prohibits Sawyer from engaging in any invasive cosmetic treatments, Judge McAdam emphasized the necessity of such measures to prevent further harm to the public. The court’s ruling also forbids Sawyer from possessing surgical equipment relevant to such procedures without a valid prescription, with clauses that allow for his arrest without a warrant if he violates the injunction’s terms.

Furthermore, testimonies from nearly 40 women have surfaced, detailing severe complications, such as sepsis and tissue death, following procedures performed by Sawyer. One such individual, Ashley, narrated her harrowing experience of undergoing a BBL at one of Sawyer’s temporary clinics. Despite being enticed by his low pricing and celebrity endorsements, she recounted a traumatic ordeal marked by excruciating pain and alarming levels of blood loss. Thankfully, Ashley survived the ordeal, but she still grapples with the emotional aftermath. Multiple councils have subsequently prohibited Sawyer from practicing in their jurisdictions, with a growing number of authorities taking action to prevent the recurrence of such illicit practices
