Presenting the champions of the fifth season of Race Across the World, mother and son duo Caroline and Tom Bridge have emerged victorious in the exhilarating competition. They completed the grueling journey covering a distance of approximately 8,700 miles, spanning from the Great Wall of China to Kanniyakumari, the southernmost point of India. Reflecting on their incredible feat, Caroline expressed, “We must never doubt ourselves again, ever, ever, ever.”

Tom, filled with elation, shared, “It’s a really good feeling. I’m lost for words. I can’t believe it: 51 days of racing through countries that I never thought I’d go to, and never thought we’d come this far, and never thought we’d achieve so much. And I’ve never been prouder of my mum.” The winning pair will be splitting a cash prize of £20,000 amongst themselves.

Throughout the competition, the teams had to navigate through seven checkpoints located in China, Nepal, and India without the luxury of air travel. Operating within a budget of £1140 per person – equivalent to the cost of a one-way plane ticket, they were tasked with arranging their transportation, sustenance, and lodging independently. The series garnered immense popularity, drawing nearly 6 million viewers per episode, making it one of the most-watched programs in the UK during its broadcast weeks.

Hailing from Hargrave near Bury St Edmunds, Caroline and Tom were driven by the desire to create everlasting memories through the unique experience offered by the show. While Tom possessed prior travel experience from his expeditions in South America and Europe, the journey provided a platform for Caroline to rediscover herself outside her roles as a mother and wife. Moreover, Tom seized the opportunity to share his journey with cerebral palsy openly with strangers for the first time, boosting his self-assurance.

The riveting Race Across the World showcased the boundless spirit of adventure and resilience as demonstrated by Caroline and Tom and their fellow competitors. With the upcoming release of a celebrity edition anticipated in 2025 or 2026, enthusiasts can look forward to witnessing more thrilling expeditions. Applications for the forthcoming season of Race Across The World are currently open until 6 July, continuing the tradition of offering extraordinary travel experiences to eager participants
