Rachael Clarke from BPAS highlighted the struggles faced by women in Wales who have to travel to England for abortion care, emphasizing the need for improved access to services closer to home. The skills gap and lack of doctors routinely performing surgical abortions present significant barriers to addressing the issue effectively. The Welsh government has pledged to work with NHS Wales to identify and overcome specific obstacles in providing surgical abortion services locally, while exploring short-term improvements and developing a sustainable service for the future
