Kieran Gibson and Ellen Fulton were in their flat when the fire started, forcing them to contemplate extreme measures to escape. Sadly, the fire resulted in the death of one person and multiple injuries, including to an eight-year-old girl.
After dialing 999, Mr. Gibson and Ms. Fulton were faced with the harrowing sounds of the ceiling collapsing around them. With smoke billowing into their flat, they were left with little choice but to call for help. Fire crews arrived promptly, but the couple were forced to consider whether jumping from the building was a better option than facing the flames.
Despite the loss of their belongings and the devastation caused by the fire, the couple expressed gratitude for the emergency responders who came to their aid. With no contents insurance for their rented property, Mr. Gibson and Ms. Fulton were left with only what they could gather from their bedroom. They were among the fortunate ones to have survived the fire, thanks to the swift action of the Tayside fire and rescue team.
As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, authorities have urged people to stay away from the area. The community has come together to support those affected by the tragedy, with about 40 residents being evacuated and provided shelter at a nearby hotel. The aftermath of the fire has left the streets closed and a temporary airspace restriction in place to assist with the investigation
