The close friend of James Lee Williams, also known as The Vivienne, winner of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, expressed during an inquest that they do not want drugs to be the defining aspect of James’ character. Tragically, James Lee Williams passed away in the bathtub at their residence near Chester on January 5 of this year. Bobby Musker testified at the Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington, revealing that he had last communicated with the drag artist via video call on the evening of January 3.

Senior Coroner Jacqueline Devonish concluded that the cause of death was an accidental overdose after it was revealed that Williams had suffered a cardiac arrest induced by an overdose of ketamine. Williams, who preferred they/them and he/him pronouns, had openly discussed their battles with addiction on an episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, which came as a surprise to their family. However, their father, Lee Williams, was under the impression that James had been successful in maintaining sobriety, and their immediate family was unaware of any relapses.

During the hearing, Mr. Williams reflected on James’ vibrant personality and desire to bring joy to others through laughter. Williams’ body was discovered by their neighbor, Janine Godbold, who tearfully recounted in court how peaceful they appeared in their final moments, resembling a peaceful slumber.
