Bob Vylan, the Ipswich punk-rap duo, made waves at the Glastonbury Festival with their controversial performance over the weekend. This might be the first time many are hearing about them, as the festival organisers expressed their dismay after frontman Bobby Vylan encouraged the crowd to chant “death, death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces]”.

The Prime Minister condemned the band for their “appalling hate speech”, leading to a criminal investigation by Avon and Somerset Police over their performances at the festival. The BBC admitted fault for not cutting away from Bob Vylan’s performance, with media watchdog Ofcom expressing concerns over the live stream.

Despite facing backlash, Bobby Vylan, whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster, stood by his remarks in an Instagram post, stating, “I said what I said.” The duo, also known as “the Bobs”, combine elements of punk rock and UK grime/hip-hop in their music, addressing themes such as racism, police violence, capitalism, and more.
