In London, three individuals have been apprehended by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of aiding Russia’s foreign intelligence service. The arrests were made at different locations in west and central London where the men, aged 48, 45, and 44, were taken into custody. Ongoing searches are being conducted at the aforementioned addresses as well as at another location in west London.

The trio is currently facing allegations of assisting a foreign intelligence service, specifically Russia, in accordance with section 3 of the National Security Act (NSA) 2023. Counter-terrorism police are spearheading an investigation into potential breaches of this act, leading to the arrests of the individuals. Authorities are actively working to combat the rising recruitment of “proxies” by foreign intelligence agencies in the country, the police force stated.

Cdr Dominic Murphy, who heads Counter Terrorism Policing London, highlighted the escalation in such activities that the Met is observing. He issued a warning to individuals who may be enticed into engaging in criminal acts on behalf of a foreign state within the UK, emphasizing that such actions will not go unpunished. Murphy made it clear that any involvement in such illicit activities will be thoroughly investigated, leading to prosecution and severe consequences for those convicted
