'I can't take any more of this,' Andrew told Epstein, released emails show

Newly released documents from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate reveal a series of email exchanges involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former British prince, shedding light on his reaction fourteen years ago to an upcoming media report concerning him, Epstein, and Ghislaine Maxwell. When informed by Epstein and Maxwell that a British newspaper was poised to publish a story implicating the trio, Andrew reportedly conveyed his frustration, stating, “I can’t take any more of this.” These emails, disclosed on Wednesday, also contain references to Donald Trump among other correspondences.

The emails reveal that Andrew’s response was prompted after he received a “right-of-reply” email sent to Maxwell by the Mail on Sunday in March 2011, which included multiple allegations against him. Addressing the accusations, Andrew wrote, “What’s all this? I don’t know anything about this! You must SAY so please. This has NOTHING to do with me. I can’t take any more of this.” This release coincides with demands from U.S. Democratic members of Congress, who have sought Andrew’s testimony as part of their investigation into Epstein’s activities prior to his death in jail awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Congressional Democratic representatives, including Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, have indicated that Andrew has not responded to their invitations to provide testimony. Subramanyam pointed out that the former prince could testify remotely without needing to travel. Meanwhile, Virginia Giuffre, a key accuser of Epstein, has alleged that Andrew engaged in sexual acts with her when she was a teenager. Andrew denies these claims but resolved the matter with Giuffre in 2022 through an out-of-court settlement that included no admission of guilt or apology. In a recent development, Andrew was stripped of all his titles following the posthumous release of Giuffre’s memoir, which drew renewed attention to his connections with Epstein and Maxwell.

The documents also include emails discussing former U.S. President Donald Trump. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released messages where Epstein mentioned Trump in exchanges with Maxwell, who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking. One email from April 2011 quotes Epstein stating, “I want you to realize that the dog that hasn’t barked is Trump.. [VICTIM] spent hours at my house with him.” The White House later clarified that the unidentified individual referenced was Giuffre, who tragically died by suicide earlier this year, emphasizing that she had consistently stated Trump was not involved in misconduct. Giuffre’s deposition and memoir did not allege any wrongdoing on Trump’s part. Republicans responded swiftly by releasing thousands of additional documents, accusing Democrats of selectively releasing information to craft a “fake narrative” against Trump.

Further released communications also highlight Epstein’s discussions about a photograph depicting Andrew with his arm around a 17-year-old Virginia Giuffre. In July 2011, Epstein, in an email exchange with a journalist, confirmed the image’s authenticity by stating, “Yes she was on my plane, and yes she had her picture taken with Andrew, as many of my employees have.” Andrew has dismissed the photograph, claiming no recollection of it and suggesting it might be fabricated. Around the same time, emails circulated relating to an upcoming Mail on Sunday story that included the notable photo and detailed allegations involving Andrew and Giuffre, including claims of sexual encounters and other misconduct at Epstein’s properties, including his private Caribbean island.

The documents also reveal contact between Jeffrey Epstein and Lord Peter Mandelson, a prominent British politician, as recently as 2016. Although previous reports had noted contact in March 2010, shortly after Epstein’s release from prison, these newly published emails show continued correspondence. In November 2016, Epstein sent Mandelson a birthday message, to which Mandelson replied, mentioning plans to spend more time in the U.S. Epstein followed with a comment referencing the imminent U.S. presidential election. Mandelson was dismissed from his role as the UK’s ambassador to the U.S. in 2021 due to his links to Epstein and has expressed regret over his association with the disgraced financier.
