Dan Norris, a former Labour Member of Parliament and ex-mayor of the West of England, has been re-arrested amid ongoing investigations into multiple sexual offence allegations. The 66-year-old independent MP is suspected of several serious offences, including the rape of more than one woman, sexual assault, voyeurism, and upskirting. These allegations span a period from the early 2000s through to the 2020s.
Initially detained in April 2025, Norris faced accusations involving child abduction, sexual offences against a girl, and the rape of a woman. However, police have since ceased their investigation into the child sexual offence and abduction claims. Despite these dropped charges, inquiries into the other alleged sexual crimes continue, alongside an additional probe concerning possible misconduct in public office, according to Avon and Somerset Police. Norris remains on conditional bail throughout the process.
Norris was elected as a Labour MP in July 2024, successfully unseating Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg by winning the North East Somerset and Hanham seat. Following his arrest in April, the Labour Party promptly suspended him from its ranks. Although Norris now sits as an independent MP, he has refrained from attending the House of Commons since the arrest but is still permitted to vote through proxy.
At the time of his initial arrest, Norris was serving as mayor of the West of England, a role he held until May 2025, when Helen Godwin succeeded him. The police investigation into Norris’ alleged offences began in December 2024. Avon and Somerset Police have stressed the complexity and sensitivity of such investigations, urging the public to avoid speculation to allow the inquiries to continue without disruption. They have also emphasized their commitment to keeping victims informed and ensuring they receive necessary support throughout the proceedings
