Conwy: Man arrested after woman dies in A55 crash

A 57-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving following a collision on a major route in north Wales. The incident occurred on the A55 near Conwy on Thursday, involving a car carrying four people and a lorry. Tragically, Jennifer Anne Brown, who was in her 40s, lost her life at the scene.

Three other individuals were injured in the crash. Two were severely hurt and airlifted to hospitals in Stoke and Aintree, while the fourth person was transported by ambulance to Aintree Hospital. The man arrested has since been released on bail while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Emergency services responded swiftly when the crash was reported around midday on January 29 at junction 17 westbound in Conwy Morfa, beneath the A547 overpass. Resources deployed to the scene included three Wales Air Ambulance helicopters, four ambulances, two additional response units, several off-duty paramedics, and firefighters.

Jennifer Anne Brown, originally from Newborough on Anglesey, had been a dedicated employee at Glan Rhos Nursing Home on the island for over 20 years, where she earned the affectionate nickname “Queen.” After her passing, colleagues remembered her as a warm and compassionate person whose smile could brighten any environment. The nursing home described her not merely as a colleague but as cherished family, noting how she started as a shy 17-year-old and grew into someone beloved by many lives she touched throughout her career
