A tragic incident occurred in Derbyshire during a police pursuit when a man lost his life after entering a flooded brook. Early on Saturday, Derbyshire Police chased a vehicle towing a caravan, believed to have been stolen from the nearby village of Oakerthorpe. The situation escalated when the vehicle rammed police cars and eventually stopped near Egginton, prompting two men to flee on foot.

Following the vehicle’s halt, one man was apprehended while the other entered Egginton Brook, which was swollen with floodwater at the time. Emergency crews conducted extensive searches before recovering the man from the water several hours later. He was promptly treated by ambulance personnel at the scene and subsequently transported to the Royal Derby Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Derbyshire Police have handed the case over to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), ensuring an independent review of the incident. Authorities are still in the process of formally identifying the deceased man and are making efforts to contact his next of kin. The man had entered the water close to the junction of Main Street and Ash Grove Lane, a location where significant damage was noted on the bridge wall and surrounding area.

At the same time, 34-year-old Adrian Osiecki from Coventry has been charged with multiple offenses including dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, criminal damage to police vehicles, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, and theft of a caravan. He is scheduled to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Local eyewitnesses described the aftermath, noting smashed brickwork on the bridge and a damaged village welcome sign, with the road remaining closed until a wrecked vehicle was cleared from the scene
