A prisoner has managed to escape from a London hospital for the second time within a week. The Metropolitan Police are actively searching for Daniel Boakye, who fled from Lewisham Hospital in southeast London on Sunday. This follows a previous escape from custody while under the supervision of prison staff at a hospital in west London on 10 February. Boakye was found and re-arrested a day after his first disappearance.
Daniel Boakye, aged 21, was sentenced in July 2023 after being convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery relating to crimes committed between July 2021 and April 2022. He was serving his term at HMP Feltham prior to these incidents. At the time of his latest escape, he was in police custody and receiving medical treatment.
After absconding during his initial escape in west London, Boakye was traced to an address in Thamesmead, where police apprehended him on 11 February. He was subsequently charged on 12 February with escaping lawful custody. Later that day, he was admitted to the hospital and remained there until fleeing again on 15 February.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police explained that officers pursued Boakye but were unable to prevent him from leaving the hospital building. “He is 21-years-old, black, of medium height and slim build. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket when he absconded,” the spokesperson said. Police have requested that anyone with information regarding his whereabouts contact them immediately, quoting reference CAD4005/15FEB.
