A 72-year-old masseur from Alnwick, Northumberland, has been formally charged with 55 sexual offences following what police described as a “complex investigation.” Terence McBrien faces multiple allegations, including attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by touching, and voyeurism. These charges are connected to incidents involving 14 women that allegedly took place over a ten-year period from 2011 to 2021, according to Northumbria Police.

McBrien is scheduled to appear at Berwick Magistrates’ Court on 19 March. Until then, he has been released on bail. The scale and severity of the charges have understandably caused concern within the local community, prompting police to address these worries openly. Detective Sergeant Michael Rainbow acknowledged that the nature of the offences and the lengthy investigation that led to the charges might be unsettling for many people.
