Tributes paid to Norfolk men who died after going missing on Yr Wyddfa

Two young men, aged 19 and 20, tragically lost their lives on Yr Wyddfa, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes from their families and local community. The men, identified locally as Eddie Hill, 20, and Jayden Long, 19, both from Norfolk, went missing earlier in the week. Concerns emerged on Wednesday, leading to an extensive search operation by mountain rescue teams despite difficult weather conditions on the mountain.

Jayden’s sister, Josie, expressed her sorrow on Instagram, describing him as an “amazing, kind and caring big brother.” Meanwhile, Eddie’s brother Harry shared a heartfelt message via social media, calling Eddie “the most amazing brother” and a “beloved son,” emphasizing the profound pain his family and friends are enduring. Josie reflected on Jayden’s passion, stating that he was “doing something he loved and was taken from us too soon,” and acknowledged how devastating the loss was to those who knew him.

Members of the local community also offered condolences and highlighted the efforts of the rescue teams. Heather Jones, clerk of Llanberis Community Council, conveyed her sympathies to the families and praised the rescuers’ dedication. She also urged future visitors to exercise caution when venturing into the mountains, warning that conditions in Llanberis are severe and exponentially worse at higher elevations.

Jurgen Dissmann, chairman of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, described the difficult search undertaken through snow and icy terrain. Despite the tireless work of the teams, including support from Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue, the RAF Mountain Rescue Team, and HM Coastguard personnel, the search ended in tragedy.
