A tragic incident occurred in Willingham, Cambridgeshire, in September 2022, when Rebecca Ableman, aged 30, was fatally injured after being struck on the head by crane equipment while pushing her young daughter’s pram along the pavement. Rebecca was walking with her two-year-old daughter, Autumn, near the B1050 when the accident happened. She suffered severe head and brain injuries and passed away three weeks later.

Kevin Miller, a 71-year-old lorry driver from Gayton Road, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, has admitted to causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving. This confession was made during a hearing at Peterborough Crown Court. Miller was transporting scrap metal from King’s Lynn docks to two Network Rail depots located in Essex and Cambridgeshire on the date of the incident. It was revealed in court that some crane equipment on his trailer became loose and hung over the side as he drove through Willingham.

Initially, Miller faced a charge of causing death by dangerous driving and denied the accusation when he went on trial last year. However, the trial was stopped in April, and a new trial had been scheduled to begin recently. Miller has claimed that he was unaware that there had been an incident until his arrest. Court officials have stated that he is due to be sentenced on 14 April.

Rebecca Ableman was remembered by her partner, Chris Tuczemskyi, as someone who “helped so many people” both professionally and in her personal life. The heartbreaking loss has deeply affected those close to her, including her daughter Autumn and partner Chris, who appeared together in family photographs shared after the tragedy
