The family of a British couple imprisoned in Iran has expressed deep concern for their safety as Israeli and US military actions target the region. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, both aged 53 and hailing from East Sussex, were sentenced to ten years in prison following their arrest in January 2025 during a global motorcycle journey.
Currently held in Tehran’s Evin prison, the Foremans have been convicted on espionage charges, allegations they strongly deny. Recent escalations in the Gulf have seen explosions reported in several states, with Iran retaliating against attacks in the area. This has heightened fears for the well-being of the couple amid the ongoing conflict.
Joe Bennett, the son of Lindsay Foreman and a resident of Folkestone, Kent, shared the family’s distress. He said, “We were extremely relieved to hear from our parents this morning and yesterday but remain incredibly worried about their safety.” He also expressed sympathy for those affected by the weekend bombings, stating, “Our hearts go out to the people of Iran and all others in the region who were impacted by the bombings this weekend.”
A family spokesperson reiterated their anxiety about the couple’s situation, confirming that Lindsay and Craig were still held in Evin prison during the recent violence in Tehran. “The family did manage to speak to them this morning and at that time they were unhurt albeit very alert to, and concerned about the danger around them,” the spokesperson added. Meanwhile, UK politicians have condemned the sentence; Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper described it as “completely appalling and totally unjustifiable,” promising a relentless pursuit of their safe return. Similarly, Dame Priti Patel, shadow foreign secretary, called the jail term “disgraceful” and urged Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to apply all possible efforts to secure their freedom.
