Channel 4 has announced that it will not broadcast the celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off which features DJ Scott Mills. This decision follows Mills’ dismissal by the BBC last month due to a historical allegation involving serious sexual offences. Mills, formerly the host of Radio 2’s breakfast show, had already filmed the episode for Stand Up To Cancer before the controversy arose.
Scott Mills has stated that he “fully co-operated and responded” to a prior police investigation which concluded without criminal charges, and he declined to comment further on the matter. Channel 4 explained that after “carefully considering the circumstances,” it determined that airing the episode would be inappropriate at this time. Instead, the network will replace the segment with an alternative episode of Celebrity GBBO. The original lineup for that episode included singer Rag’n’Bone Man, DJ Edith Bowman, and JLS star Aston Merrygold alongside Mills.
In addition to the show’s removal, Mills has also been withdrawn from his role as the special guest DJ supporting Boyzone at their upcoming concerts at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium this June. While he was initially listed as a supporting act for Boyzone’s Two For The Road reunion gigs, his name has since been removed from the lineup. It remains unclear whether Mills was formally excluded or withdrew voluntarily. Previously, Mills had expressed excitement about the shows, saying, “What a dream to support the lads this summer, it’s going to be two nights of big tunes, big singalongs and plenty of 90s nostalgia. I hope you’re ready!” Other acts such as S Club and B*Witched are still confirmed as support for these concerts.
Furthermore, Scott Mills has stepped back from his role as an ambassador for the MS Society UK charity. Having become involved with the charity in 2015 after his mother’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis, Mills’ decision to step aside comes as the organization reviews the situation in light of recent developments. The charity emphasized the seriousness with which they take such concerns, prioritizing the MS community’s trust and support needs. Similarly, the children’s cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK announced last week that it has ended its association with Mills, who had been a patron since 2021.
The background to these events includes a Metropolitan Police investigation initiated in 2016 concerning allegations against Mills relating to serious sexual offences involving a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000. The investigation was closed in 2019 due to insufficient evidence for prosecution. The BBC stated it was aware of the inquiry in 2017 but decided to terminate Mills’ employment only when it became clear the alleged victim was under 16 at the time. In his own statement last week, Mills acknowledged the 2016 allegation and police investigation, reiterated his cooperation with authorities, and requested privacy, noting that the matter involved events from nearly 30 years ago and that legal proceedings were not pursued due to lack of evidence
