A dispute over parking in Llan Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, escalated dramatically when a nurse assaulted her neighbour and forced her way into their home. Christine Sharman, 69, was involved in a confrontation on 25 July 2025 after becoming upset when Alun Jones parked outside her property. The court heard that the disagreement quickly intensified, resulting in Sharman punching Alun’s wife, Jane Jones, in the chest.
The incident occurred on Penybryn, a narrow street in the centre of Llan Ffestiniog where parking is limited to one side, the side where Sharman resides. On the day in question, CCTV footage captured Sharman angrily walking up the path to the Jones family’s front door. She demanded that Alun move his black Vauxhall, repeatedly asking, “What are you doing?” When Alun refused to engage and closed the door, a second knock was made, this time answered by Jane Jones.
Jane described how Sharman pushed against the door with such force that she could not close it. “She came in with a lunge,” Jane said, recounting that she tried to block Sharman but was struck in the chest with a closed fist. “I was in shock, I wasn’t expecting it at all,” she added. The court was also informed of a history of “bad blood” between Sharman and the Jones family, often linked to ongoing parking disagreements.
During the court proceedings at Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court, Sharman expressed regret and insisted she had only meant to speak calmly, citing the need to access her vehicle for work. “I have a long serving history as a registered nurse,” she stated tearfully. “I’m caring and compassionate. If I’d punched anyone, I’d be sacked.” Despite her claims of innocence regarding the assault, magistrates found Jane Jones’s account credible and convicted Sharman of assault and of using violence to enter the house. Sharman is due to be sentenced on 11 May
