The UK Home Office has barred a US-based anti-Islam social media influencer from entering the country. Valentina Gomez, known for her controversial views and campaigns against Islam, including a video where she burned a Quran, was prevented from coming to the UK. Gomez has previously campaigned for election in Missouri and Texas, running on an anti-Islam platform.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made the decision to deny Gomez entry on the grounds that her presence would not be in the public interest. Gomez had announced on social media that she planned to speak at a rally in London organized by Tommy Robinson, known as the Unite the Kingdom event, scheduled for 16 May. Gomez, who is 26 years old and originally from Colombia, had claimed that her visa application for the UK had already been approved before the decision to block her entry.

After Gomez shared on Instagram that her “VISA APPROVED,” the Muslim Council of Britain raised concerns with the Home Office. In a letter dated 17 April, the council expressed its worry that permitting Gomez to speak publicly in the UK would lend her legitimacy and undermine consistent enforcement of Home Office standards. The group highlighted that allowing such appearances could send a harmful message about tolerance and public safety.

Welcoming the Home Office’s refusal, the Muslim Council of Britain described the decision as a precedent for preventing those who promote hatred and misinformation from entering the UK. This move falls in line with previous instances where the Home Office has blocked visas for high-profile individuals perceived as potentially inciting unrest or conflict
