Michael Mullins, who led Stretford Grammar School in Greater Manchester for 17 years, tragically lost his life in a collision while cycling home from work. The 56-year-old head teacher was hit by a car on Paddock Lane in Altrincham on Monday evening, resulting in his death.

Following the incident, Simon Richardson, 34, a man with no fixed address, was charged by Greater Manchester Police with murder, manslaughter, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance. Richardson was scheduled to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Friday. Additionally, two other men and a woman initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have since been released on bail as investigations continue.

Tributes from Michael Mullins’ family described the profound loss they feel. They said, “Our loving dad, husband, brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, uncle and son-in-law passed away after being knocked off his bike.” They expressed the emotional void left both in their hearts and within the school community, emphasizing the impact he had in his role as head teacher.

The family spoke warmly about Michael’s devotion to his loved ones and shared treasured memories, including one of getting lost during a night trip in Washington DC. They noted, “It was in his role as a grandad where he truly excelled.” Concluding their tribute, they said: “Our love and memories of Michael will know no limits. We will love him forever, to Saturn and beyond.” Investigators are appealing to the public for any information or dashcam footage related to the crash to assist with their inquiries
