Farringdon station was evacuated and closed following a suspected gas leak, with a few passengers reporting symptoms of illness. The British Transport Police (BTP) responded to the incident shortly after 09:42 BST, and the disruption has impacted train operations at the station.
According to BTP, officers were joined at the scene by ambulance crews and the fire brigade. The station remained cleared while officials conducted investigations into the situation. National Rail has informed travelers that no trains will be operating through Farringdon until 13:00.
Thameslink advised passengers affected by the incident to use nearby alternatives, suggesting travel to either City Thameslink (Holborn exit) or London St. Pancras International stations. Meanwhile, armed police were also present outside Farringdon as part of the response.
The incident led to the suspension of the entire central London section of the Elizabeth line that passes through Farringdon. To assist passengers, Elizabeth line services offered free bus transportation to and from Farringdon, allowing customers to complete their journeys despite the disruption
