Nine children were hospitalized after ingesting seeds from trees on the grounds of a primary school in Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred at Jesse Gray Primary School in West Bridgford, prompting East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) to respond at 13:26 BST on Wednesday.

The affected group consisted of Year 6 pupils who had eaten the seeds while playing in the school yard. As a precautionary measure, nine children were transported to the Queen’s Medical Centre for observation. They were monitored for several hours, discharged later the same day, and returned to school the following morning.

EMAS deployed multiple resources to the scene, including paramedics traveling in ambulance cars, crewed ambulances, and its Hazardous Area Response Team. Additionally, a responder from the air ambulance unit was present to assist.

Following the incident, a county council spokesperson stated that the area where the children were playing had been cordoned off. After a professional inspection by the school’s ground maintenance team the next morning, a decision was made to remove several trees from the school grounds. The spokesperson added, “This morning’s school assembly reinforced the message of safe play and the dangers of eating berries or seeds from trees and shrubs.
