Last year, a tragic murder occurred on a beach in Ayrshire, involving teenagers caught up in gang rivalries. The victim, 16-year-old Kayden Moy, was fatally stabbed on Irvine Beach on 17 May 2025. Following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, two teenagers have now been found guilty in connection with his death. Jay Stewart, 18, and a 15-year-old, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, were both convicted of the murder.
Alongside them was 18-year-old Cole Turley, who had admitted guilt before the trial began. All three were associated with the Murray Boys gang from East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire. Moy, the victim, was affiliated with a rival gang known as the Himshie group. The events leading to the murder involved Stewart and the unnamed teenager pursuing Moy until he fell, after which they repeatedly stabbed him while acting alongside Turley.

Earlier on the day of the murder, the gangs had already been involved in altercations, and the three accused had traveled to the beach following an earlier fight.
Before the stabbing, the accused threw rocks at Moy and his friends, a tactic the prosecution argued was intended to provoke a confrontation. Stewart was also seen carrying a baton. After the attack, which caused chaos on the beach, the trio returned to East Kilbride by taxi. They subsequently went to the house of 19-year-old Fraser Wallace, a friend of Turley. Wallace testified during the trial that the 15-year-old had told him he passed the murder weapon, a lockback knife, to Turley just before the stabbing took place
