Two men involved in a violent gang feud were sentenced to prison for firebombing a house in Edinburgh under orders from a “boss” based in Dubai. The attack, which badly damaged the semi-detached property, took place in the early hours of 4 April 2025. Richard Ordish, aged 19, and Kurtis Young, 42, were captured on camera carrying out the crime.

After the incident, the pair went to Young’s partner’s home smelling strongly of petrol and Young made a phone call to someone in the United Arab Emirates to confirm that the task had been completed. Both men pleaded guilty to attempted murder at the High Court in Glasgow, receiving extended sentences due to the severity of their actions. Ordish was sentenced to seven years, while Young received 11 years in prison, with both subject to four years of supervision upon their release.

The sentencing judge, Lord Arthurson, described the attack as “wholly murderous” and noted the “very real threat to kill” posed by the firebombing. He condemned the men’s actions as part of an escalating organized crime gang war, calling it “a callous, concerted and tragic crime” carried out while victims were asleep. Lord Arthurson emphasized that the attack was motivated by financial gain and executed under instruction, highlighting the public’s profound contempt for such conduct.

Court evidence revealed that before the arson, Ordish and Young purchased fuel cans and used a taxi to retrieve a motorbike, which they later rode to the targeted home. Neighbors reported hearing disturbances around 1 a.m. Prosecutor Michael Macintosh explained that Young set the fire by throwing a lit object through a ground-floor window while Ordish waited on the bike. The attack was filmed and the footage posted online, associated with an account known as Tamo Junto, which promoted similar acts linked to a wider spate of fire-raising crimes investigated under Operation Portaledge. Following the attack, Young was reported to have collected cash payment, and their phones contained incriminating messages, including a text to Young’s mother expressing fear of being caught
