Two men tragically lost their lives after attempting to rescue two children in difficulty at Seaton Carew beach in Hartlepool, according to Cleveland Police. The emergency services were alerted at 15:45 BST when reports came in about the two children struggling in the water. The men entered the sea in an effort to assist the children and were later pulled from the water by RNLI lifeboat crews.

Despite resuscitation efforts, both men were pronounced dead shortly after being brought ashore. The two children involved were checked at a hospital and confirmed to be safe. Local MP Jonathan Brash described the situation as a “heartbreaking tragedy” for the town of Hartlepool.

Authorities have confirmed that the deaths are not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be submitted to the coroner. To aid those affected, Cleveland Police are providing support through specially trained officers to the families of both men.
