A vigil is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Ballymena, County Antrim, to honor an eight-year-old girl and her 39-year-old mother, who are believed to be victims of a double murder. Authorities are treating the incident as a suspected double murder followed by suicide. The family originally hailed from Poland, although the young girl was reportedly born in Northern Ireland. The vigil will take place at the Braid Arts Centre, beginning at 18:30 BST.
Sonya McMullan, representing Women’s Aid, expressed profound sorrow upon learning of the tragedy. She said, “Yet another family is experiencing such grief and loss that no family should ever have to go through.” Women’s Aid tracks the number of women and girls killed in Northern Ireland since 2020, and McMullan noted that this case raises that number to 31.
McMullan emphasized the importance of remembering each victim and highlighted the responsibility of political leaders, the media, and the public in addressing violence against women and girls. She stated, “This is a call to action that every one of us needs to do more.
