Cate McHugh wins The Voice UK after being mentored by Sir Tom Jones

Cate McHugh, who started her musical journey as a teenage street performer in Cardiff, has been named the winner of The Voice UK. Hailing from Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan, the 31-year-old artist was visibly overwhelmed when her victory was announced on the ITV show. When asked about her feelings, she simply said, “I did it.”
Despite being registered blind due to a degenerative sight condition, McHugh impressed both the audience and her coach, Sir Tom Jones. This marked Jones’s final appearance on the show, concluding his time after previously stating he had been “fired.” Following the announcement, Jones gave McHugh a warm congratulatory hug.
Sharing her excitement after the win, McHugh expressed her astonishment, saying, “I won The Voice! I’m entirely gobsmacked and absolutely haven’t fully processed this information just yet.” Her joy was further captured in videos posted on social media, showing her celebrating with family and friends during a watch party in Cardiff.
As part of her winnings, McHugh received a £50,000 cash prize as well as a recording contract. She has already released her debut single, a rendition of The Beatles’ “Blackbird.” On social media, she thanked her supporters by writing, “From the bottom of my heart I want to say THANK YOU for following my journey, and joining my world! This is where it’s going to REALLY get fun!
