Residents encouraged to explore free learning and career support at Park Road Adult Learning Centre

Liverpool residents are invited to attend an open day at Park Road Adult Learning Centre on Wednesday, 4 November, offering a chance to explore various educational and personal development opportunities. Whether you are considering a career change, returning to study, building confidence, or simply wanting to connect with others, this event is designed to showcase what the Liverpool Adult Learning Service has to offer. The open day will run from 1pm to 3pm at the centre located in L8.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with tutors, meet potential employers, and connect with local support organisations. Information will be available on how adult education can help individuals gain new skills and qualifications that could lead to new career paths. The event caters to a broad range of goals, whether it’s retraining, enhancing self-confidence, re-entering the workforce, or pursuing a personal ambition.

A highlight of the open day will be the display of various qualifications related to Working with Children, such as the Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools, Level 2 Diploma in Early Years Practitioner, and Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Many of these courses are provided free for residents who receive certain benefits or earn below £37,144 annually. Additionally, there will be a marketplace featuring local partners and support services, including community learning providers, Connect to Work, the Financial Inclusion Team, Granby & Dingle Family Hub, and representatives from North West Ambulance Service recruitment.

Visitors will also be invited to view a new mural at the centre created by local artist Brigitte Watkinson in collaboration with women from the community as part of the Carter Center’s Inform Women, Transform Lives initiative. This global programme, launched in 2021, aims to empower women by providing them with information and resources to improve their wellbeing and economic prospects. The mural celebrates the strength, creativity, and achievements of women in L8 while emphasizing the importance of learning, connection, and access to information in transforming lives.

Cllr Rahima Farah, Assistant Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, commented on the event: “Park Road Adult Learning Centre has been helping Liverpool residents change their lives through learning for many years. Every day, people come through its doors to gain new skills, improve their confidence, meet new people and take positive steps towards their goals. This open day is a fantastic opportunity to discover what’s available, whether you’re looking for a new challenge, a route back into work or simply a chance to learn something new. Adult learning changes lives, and we’re proud to offer opportunities that help residents realise their potential. The fantastic new mural is a powerful reflection of the local community. Created through the Carter Center’s Inform Women, Transform Lives initiative, it celebrates the talent, experiences and achievements of local women while showcasing the positive impact that learning, creativity and community can have.”
