Help bring some festive warmth to Liverpool’s care leavers this Christmas

Liverpool City Council is encouraging local residents and community groups to participate in its Christmas Sock Appeal aimed at supporting young people leaving care. This initiative focuses on collecting new, unopened socks to help create special gift packages for these individuals during the festive season.
For many young care leavers, the holiday period can be particularly challenging. Unlike others who might spend Christmas surrounded by family and friends, these young people often face independence without the usual support networks. To help brighten their celebrations and provide a sense of care and community, the council is inviting donations that will contribute towards meaningful festive gifts.
Those wishing to contribute can drop off new socks at a range of designated collection points throughout the city, including Liverpool branch libraries, the Cunard Building on Water Street, the Edge Customer Focus Centre in Edge Hill, and Parklands in Speke. Alternatively, donations can be made by purchasing items through the appeal’s dedicated Amazon Wishlist. The deadline for contributions is Friday, 27 November 2026.
Councillor Liz Parsons, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, emphasized the importance of this support, stating: “As corporate parents, our responsibility to young people doesn’t end when they leave care. Leaving care can be a challenging time, particularly during the festive season, and we want our care leavers to know that they are valued and supported as they move into adulthood. This appeal is a wonderful example of Liverpool’s community spirit, helping us bring a little extra warmth and kindness to young people across our city this Christmas.”
