Authorities have arrested a man and a woman following a tragic collision that resulted in the death of one boy and serious injuries to two others. The incident occurred late on Friday night on Greenfield Road in Flitwick, Bedfordshire.
Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 23:50 BST after a vehicle struck three teenagers—two of whom were riding bicycles and one riding a scooter. Sadly, one of the boys was declared dead at the location, while the other two were transported to hospital with severe injuries.
The driver involved fled the scene, but police soon located a blue BMW nearby with extensive damage. Both a man and a woman in their 20s have been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while over the legal alcohol limit, and driving over the permissible limit of a controlled drug.
Detective Sergeant Shona Searle of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed condolences for the families affected and emphasized the ongoing efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have called for anyone who may have witnessed the event or who possesses dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.
