A tragic incident occurred in the village of Leaden Roding, near Dunmow, where a young woman lost her life following a dog attack at a residence. The victim has been identified locally as 19-year-old Jamie-Lea Biscoe. Essex Police were alerted to the emergency at Long Hide shortly before 23:00 BST on Friday evening, when they discovered the woman suffering from serious injuries.
Despite the rapid response and efforts of emergency personnel at the scene, the woman was declared deceased. A 37-year-old man from Dunmow was subsequently arrested on suspicion of being responsible for a dog dangerously out of control, leading to injury that resulted in death. Authorities have taken possession of the dog involved, and specialist officers have since secured the area to maintain safety.
The property where the incident took place remains cordoned off by police as their investigation continues. On Saturday, Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper acknowledged the impact of the event on the local community, stating, “I know this incident will be a shock to the local community. My thoughts, and those of us all at Essex Police, are with the loved ones of the woman who died yesterday. Experienced detectives are leading the investigation to understand exactly what has happened.”
In addition to ongoing inquiries, Essex Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone possessing CCTV, dashcam footage, or other relevant information to come forward, referencing incident number 1419 dated 10 April.
