Man shot with crossbow at the University of Surrey, say police

A 21-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident at the University of Surrey where a staff member was injured by a crossbow shot. Authorities responded to reports early Thursday morning that a man in his 50s had been struck by the weapon at Manor Park Student Village in Guildford.

According to Surrey Police, the suspect is a former student of the university and was apprehended near the scene shortly after the attack. The university confirmed that the injured individual is a member of its campus safety team and described the injuries as serious. The police have clarified that the event is not being treated as terrorism-related.

Emergency services maintained a significant presence at the location, and the victim was transported to a hospital where he remains in serious condition. The South East Coast Ambulance Service stated that a critical care paramedic attended the scene and that the victim was later airlifted to a London hospital for further treatment.
