During a recent visit to the Welsh coastal town of Llandudno, American pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo encountered an unexpected challenge that left her eating nothing but sausage rolls for an entire day. The 21-year-old singer, known for chart-topping hits like “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U,” shared the story during an interview on Capital Breakfast’s After The Show with Jordan North.
Rodrigo revealed that her American credit card was repeatedly declined at various establishments in the town because it was not accepted outside the United States. “I had this credit card that didn’t work in any place that wasn’t America. Nobody took it!” she explained. Stranded without food in her hotel and unable to make purchases elsewhere, she recounted wandering the streets seeking something she could buy. Eventually, her card was accepted at a venue that served sausage rolls, which became her sole sustenance for the day. She also mentioned, “Oh, and then a pub took my card. So, sausage rolls and white wine are all I had all day.” Reflecting on the experience, Rodrigo described it as “kinda cool” and considered it a memorable moment.
During her stay, Olivia was spotted shopping at a local Marks & Spencer store, where she spent time engaging with staff and customers. Rose Ann Bituon-Thomas, a Marks & Spencer employee, shared her experience meeting the singer. “She’s been walking around Llandudno for weeks,” Rose Ann said. “She came to my conveyor belt — she’s so natural. No bodyguards whatsoever. I just talked to her.” The store worker added, “She was very welcoming and talking so calmly. We had a normal conversation, she seemed very relaxed with me, so I did ask if I could have a selfie with her and she was very happy to have one with me.”
Aside from the supermarket visits, Rodrigo was also seen enjoying the local nightlife, stopping by various bars and eateries, including Da Venezia. As a three-time Grammy Award winner, she recently released her third studio album and is gearing up for a major tour scheduled for later in the year. The unexpected moments spent in Llandudno, with its friendly encounters and unique dining experience, clearly added a special chapter to her busy career
