A man has been granted bail following an incident that took place nine years ago in south-west London, where a woman was reportedly pushed into the path of a bus. The event was captured on CCTV in May 2017, showing a jogger running along Putney Bridge and seemingly shoving the woman onto the road. Fortunately, the bus driver was able to swerve just in time, preventing serious injury to the woman.
The individual, aged 44, was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. During his time in police custody, the Metropolitan Police reported that he was also detained on suspicion of possessing both Class A and Class B drugs. Prior to this, the investigation had been closed after three other men were arrested but eventually released without any charges.
The footage clearly shows the bus veering into another lane to avoid colliding with the woman after she was pushed. Sergeant Mat Knowles commented on the incident, stating, “It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle.” His remark highlights the critical role of the driver’s response in preventing what could have been a tragic accident.
Earlier inquiries into the case had identified over 50 individuals of interest. Despite extensive efforts, the police had to close the investigation in 2018 after determining that all leads had been thoroughly explored.
