Donaldson to give up knighthood and seat on Privy Council

Jeffrey Donaldson, formerly the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and now a convicted sex offender, has formally requested the revocation of his knighthood. In addition to this, he has resigned from his position on the Privy Council, effective immediately.

These developments were confirmed through a statement from his legal representative, John McBurney. The statement detailed that a letter was sent to the Cabinet Office on Donaldson’s behalf, expressing his wish to renounce and forfeit his knighthood.

Earlier in the week, Donaldson was found guilty on 18 counts of sexual abuse, which included a charge of rape. The offenses were committed against two women during their childhood.

The legal statement further noted that a separate letter was also delivered to the Privy Council office, signifying Donaldson’s immediate resignation from the council
